“Accessories are like vitamins to fashion” – famously said by Anna Dello Russo who is widely known in the fashion industry for her daring choice of accessories. And when it comes to styling your office looks, accessories are a must in order to bring your outfit to life. A scarf is such a versatile accessory which can do just that! There are tons of ideas out there how to tie a scarf in numerous ways. But this post is different. Instead, it gives you ideas how to wear your scarf in different, unique ways that you might have never thought of or seen before.
Ways to Wear a Scarf #1: Summer Layering Dream
I came across this photo of Olivia Culpo recently and immediately fell in love with the way the scarf was tied. Not only is it a perfect way to style a sleeveless summer dress for the office if you don’t want too much skin to be visible. It’s also very elegant and feminine and not a style you’d see many women wear. You need a long scarf (similar one from Amazon tagged below and available in 10+ colours). Hold 2 opposing ends of the scarf, cross them and tie them at the back of your neck. I usually tuck the knot into the dress for a finished look.
Ways to Wear a Scarf #2: Belted Scarf
This is by far my favourite and the one I think makes the biggest fashion statement when it comes to workwear, especially if you go for an unexpected print like leopard or polka dot . It contrasts nicely with the usual simplicity of work clothes and guarantees to portrait you as a fashion queen in the office.
Your imagination is the limit when it comes to how to style it. You can layer and belt it on a dress or a suit, a skirt, or trousers. A more traditional way to belt it is with both sides at the front. Or get creative and style it in a chic asymmetrical way, as seen on the red Zara suit; or draped, as seen on the flower Asos suit.
Ways to Wear a Scarf #3: The Only Way to Wear a Choker in the Office
There are many posts on how to tie a scarf in different ways. But I’ve personally never seen anyone tie it like a choker. Chokers are very trendy these days but certainly a no, no in a strict corporate environment. Instead, you can recreate the effect with a scarf! This is what it looks like from both the front and back. In my opinion, it works best with your hair up, whether in a ponytail or a bun, for a more dramatic effect but you can wear it with your hair down as well.
Ways to Wear a Scarf #4: A Scarf as a Belt
Trenchcoat Envy
Who says a scarf should only be worn around your neck? Upgrade your trenchcoat by swapping the belt with a colourful scarf to bring some colour and brightness to those rainy days. And cement your position as the office fashionista!
Define Your Waistline
If you’ve started with your trenchcoat you might as well swap your waist belt with a scarf as well. Here are some easy to follow instructions on how to tie a square scarf like a wide waist belt, as well as some inspo looks. Doesn’t it look amazing paired with the plain office pencil skirts?
Ways to Wear a Scarf #5 :Bad Hair Day Sorted
Do you like me struggle with styling your hair in the morning cause you’re always running late? Add the fact that I was too lazy to wash my hair the night before and I’m already panicking. I’ve previously shared some of my favourite work hairstyle ideas which takes <5min. And tying a scarf around your loose hair, ponytail or bun is one of these chic and elegant hairstyles which I often use in such ’emergecy situations’. Here are some of my favourite looks.
