Knowledge is our most valuable asset. In fact, people spending more than 2 hours a week on their personal development are 48% more likely to have found purpose – in work or life, to feel empowered and satisfied with life. Imagine if you could access 20,000 of the best self-development books PDF and boost your personal and career growth!
But time is our most limited resource. In fact, according to LinkedIn research, the number 1 reason employees say holds them back from spending time on their personal and professional development is lack of time.
But what if reading a whole personal development book takes just 10minutes? You can reap the benefits of reading for your self-development and boost your career growth whilst having enough time on your hands to get on with your day!
With getAbstract, you can!
I first heard about getAbstract 2 years ago and it’s become my favourite self-development platform! In a nutshell, they summarise non-fiction books, articles and videos and present you with the most important take-away points and a summary of the content. So you learn something new by crunching a whole book and its key messages in just 10 minutes!
Here’s how getAbstract works, in more detail:
Each product we feature has been carefully and independently selected. We may receive a commission for purchases made through these links. But don’t worry – this won’t cost you extra. You can read our full disclosure here.

There are more than 25 channels to choose from, including:
This is it. You now have instant access to all 20,000 self-development books PDF and audiobook summaries.
2. Browse the 20,000 self-development books PDF or audio summaries
There are 3 ways to browse:
- Your home page includes a ‘Recommended For You’ section with top reading picks from your channels. You can also see ‘Editor’s Picks’ and ‘Featured Channels’
- From the Explore page, you can find popular books and trending channels which are not necessarily linked to your chosen are of interest. But are highly rated by other readers.
- From within individual channels (e.g. Business below) you can find top books on that topic as well related channels of interest to follow.
3. Make the most of getAbstract
It can be a bit overwhelming at first. But honestly, the feeling is the same when you visit a large bookstore! Here are my tips on how to make the most of it:
- Get the app. We spend so much more time on our phones these days. It’s easier to quickly browse and save interesting titles via the app, than via a computer. I do this whilst watching TV or drinking my morning coffee.
- Get recommendations from your colleagues, coach or top-rated Amazon books and search for the book directly.
- Read the recommendations which are sent straight to your email. They’re tailored based on your interests and past reading history. This removes the stress from choosing amongst so many books.
- Identify specific personal development areas using our free personal development worksheet and plan and browse books directly related to your areas of improvement.
- I personally block 20min of my time every Sunday to pick my readings for the following week and save them for later. I then read one summary every night before I go to bed! It’s a great end to your day and makes you feel productive even if you had a bad day at work.
Once you’ve navigated to a specific book summary, you can like it, save it, add it to your channels and share it. You can also easily link your Amazon Kindle device and read summaries wherever you want from your Kindle (with the pro plan).
4. After the 3-days free trial
Your free trial will expire in 3 days. If you decide not to continue your subscription there’s nothing further to do. If you choose to join thousands of other ambitious and career-driven people who use getAbstract to boost their personal development and save precious time, you get a 15% discount too!
You can choose between 2 individual subscription plans.
With the Starter Plan for just £70 (€84/$84; including the 15% discount), you get 5,000 book and audio summaries and unlimited access via the app and the web. With the average cost of a personal development book more than £10, you get access to 5,000 book summaries at the price of 7!
The Prop Plan is more pricey (£230 or $254/€254). But you get access to 20,000 books, instead of 5,000! And you can also download your chosen self development books in PDF format, set up personal channels, use the app offline and send to Kindle.
Realistically, you most likely won’t be able to read even 5,000 summaries. However, the Pro plan gives you access to more channels as well. If say leadership, marketing, or management are the topics you’re particularly interested in, then it’s worth it. It’s a pricier investment but you get access to more books RELEVANT to your interests and career growth.
But if you’re on a budget, the Starter Plan still gives you so much at the cost of less than 7 books! And definitely more than enough to boost your self-development and expand your knowledge.
Whichever plan you choose make sure you click on the Subscribe Now link from your home page or from the email sent to you to get the 15% discount!
Conclusion
getAbstract can save you time and money, boost your personal development and career growth.
Most books take 10 minutes to read so you can learn on the go and even listen to the summaries whilst having a bath or cooking your dinner. And with the Starter Plan costing less than 7 books bought from a book store, it’s a no brainer to invest your personal growth today.
